Great puzzles to exercise your brain

These puzzles are meant to exercise your brain, and they do. I have all the previous books. I have found that they are great in getting my math students to think and use logical constructs. I give these books to my graduating 8th graders. The key to completing the puzzles is to resist the urge to guess. If you guess, you will end up guessing wrong and have to bring out the old eraser and try again, usually from scratch.

I contacted the author, Mr. Benedek, and he was very nice and informative. He has done a great service by issuing these books, and I highly recommend them.

I especially enjoyed the Eddie Gaedel story; even though I'm ticked off that, that shrimp, played for the Browns and I couldn't make it. Each of the stories were more interesting than the next. Although I'm still ticked off because that little guy played for the Browns and I didn't make it. Each of the stories were better than the next. But, The ones about the Hippo and "How Swiss Cheese is Made" were best.

You will learn that Reno, NV, is actually located further west than Los Angeles.

It is both a fun solo read as well as in a family setting. Read it during one of the many Boston snow storms and it made me forget the Boston winter for a while anyway. his book is intended for people, who occasionally, or as a source of income, like to make money playing roulette in a casino. But it's not just for roulette players; it is intended for all casino goers; including (especially) blackjack card counters and other table games players.

Blackjack card counters will be pleasantly surprised to find out what is in store for them. In the game of blackjack, they basically count the cards to find the ratio of tens and small cards in the remainder of the deck. Fine-tuning helps them to keep track of aces, deuces, and sevens.

When the ratio of the tens (picture cards are also counted as 10) is high in the deck, the player has a better chance to win. With a single deck, you can gain up to a 4% advantage for the remaining hand or two, when the player bets the allowed maximum, trying to net a hand or two.

But casinos have countered this by adding additional decks of cards to 4, 6, even 8 decks, and by allowing a dealer to cut and shuffle the cards as he deems it necessary, to stop the count. And when counting the cards, players must keep it all in their head. Note keeping is not allowed. But when you're playing roulette, you can write notes as much you like.

Our program shows you, the blackjack player, how easily you can have at least a 5% increase in advantage on every single spin, playing even money bets, as you would at the blackjack table. You'll also find out how on 20% of your spins you'll have an increase in advantage of over 20%. And when you play roulette like that, you can play a $5 minimum and jump up to a $1000 bet without causing a "shuffle".

I definitely will recommend this book to everyone who is willing to learn how to profitable play roulette.

I purchase this book some time ago in its PDF version thorough Click Bank. Also I did borrow this version from Kindle. There is some, like “Ultimate Roulette play” which I found to be excellent addition. It is very ease to play and is quite profitable if you have time to play longer sections. Also I found Third version which is mostly for European Roulette.
For you who do not believe in “Dealers Signature” I found something convincing on the you tube http://www.visualroulettesystem.com
Roulette dealer is offering something I could not understand completely, but I think he is sales some prediction system. In any case he is demonstrating how able he is in predicting where ball is going to land with good success.
Problem with his “prediction” is: He is throwing the ball himself. Go to see it and you will find Dealers know very well where their thrown ball is going to land.
I am a small player playing minimum amounts on outside play which is usually $5. Take me on average 3 hours of play to make about $100. Some time I play other suggested bets which are more profitable and newer found any problem from casino sides. A few times I try to play straight number which is definitely much more profitable except is a problem to be fast enough to remember which numbers to bet and cover them in allowed time to place the bet after boll gets spun. On those a few occasion when I play numbers after 10 to 15 bets dealer start to shorten the time before he say “no more bets”. So I return to my outside bets with some bets on second dozen as book suggest. Playing like that presented no problem because dealer returned to his normal ways.
I also found the gadget on Amazon called “bet locator”. Device is just two plastic pictures of the wheel, smaller and the larger connected in the middle with rivet. Smaller wheel is used to find where from ball was spun and the larger wheel is set in such a way to show you which bet to place. For me it works just fine, because I do not have to think where tom place bet. Just find the number where ball was spun and above that number on the larger wheel are numbers which you shall bet. Also there are colored markings for rest of suggested bets. It comes with instructions. If you can find it there is no need to buy the book because those instructions are just enough.
If you can’t find it (I found it 5 years ago). You can make it yourself and directions you will find in this book or you can contact the author who made it in my opinion.
Draw back on this book may be difficulties to learn precise positions of the numbers on the roulette wheel in the order like 00-27-10-25-29-12-8 and so on. I did not have this problem because I worked in casinos for about 20 years occasionally as a roulette dealer.
Haw ever so far I did not stumble on the casino in USA which does not allow placing the bets after ball is spun. I did found some dealers live you very little time on the occasions.
I definitely will recommend this book to everyone who is willing to learn how to profitable play roulette.
I am very impressed with directness and straight on to the points which I tested for several years and found it to be exactly what author writes.

Dealer Signature System

This book was released in 2013, however the information is fairly dated and does not apply to most of the roulette played today; either online or at a live casino. The system is strictly looking for a dealer to spin the same way the majority of the time and then bet the way he spins to win after tracking the dealer for a while. In the past when dealers had had long shifts and worked the same table for their entire shift the system did have some merit. Today's fast pace has dealers changing positions every 30 minutes or so and even moving between wheels during their shift, and to be honest most dealers have no idea how to how to place the ball in a particular area of the wheel, much less a particular number---to say that dealers in casinos today can notice how someone is betting and then make them lose by adjusting their spin is almost laughable. I play roulette everyday either online or at my nearby casinos and the majority of dealers just pick up the ball, spin it and have no idea where the ball is going to land. Even if they did have a "dealer signature" the eye in the sky would catch it and take the dealer of the wheels and put them in some other position at the casino. One final note, is the placing of bets after the ball has been spun; most casinos will not allow bets after the spins and the ones that do permit it "call no more bets" much faster than they used to. The system is not a scam, but it is far from being an ATM.

A classic! One of the best bridge books written

The first edition was one of the best bridge books I have ever read. It discusses aspects of duplicate strategy that aren't covered anywhere else. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is serious about bridge.

Updated Version of a Classic

This book is a classic, and the original was a groundbreaking work. It is amazing how many of the ideas still hold true today. This new version has updated bidding for the 21st century, and more importantly is actually available since the old version went out of print years ago.

It is also available as an ebook on BridgeWinners' website for $5 cheaper for those that like a digital version or who want to save money.

Best Overall Matchpoint Strategy Book Ever

This is one of the best books I have ever found on Matchpoint strategy. This book is for the very strong intermediate and advanced player and deals with important issues not covered in standard books on bidding and play of pairs match point scoring.

Of particular importance so far are the sections on playing a 4-3 fit, when to bid one no trump with a 5 card major and more importantly when not to bid one no trump with a 5 card major. He also covers penalty doubles, and again Woolsey gets right to the heat of the matter of how and when and when not to make them. There is little good written information on low level penalty doubles other than "Welding the Axe" by Boehm, so this section is one of my favorites.

This is a book that will be read and then reread several times.

My favorite bridge author is Mike Lawrence and this is as good as his books. I knew Woolsey was one of the great players, now I know he is also one of the best writers.

What a freakin' treat!!!

I LOVE ME SOME SHERRILYN KENYON!!! Now with that being said, having all her wonderful short stories in one location and read by the wonderful Fred Berman...... (swoon). That man has the sexiest damn voice and just brings life and total hotness to SK's wonderful characters. As always, the stories are full of hope, heartache and heroes. From the first story, I laughed, I cried and I went through the whole gambit of emotions along with the characters. And it didn't stop there, each story is unique. Some are in her Dark Hunter world and some are from others. It's just like the title says but instead of Dark Bites, I'd say they are yummy bites for new and old SK fans!

From the World of the Dark-Hunters:

House of the Rising Son - (Aricles & Bathymaas: you can find more about them in Styxx's book). OMG I absolutely loved this story and now I wanna go back and read Styxx again but I warn you, it's a tear jerker but of course, so was Styxx. This story lays the ground work for Styxx's romance, so if you haven't read Styxx yet, read this first. If you have read Styxx, you're gonna wanna read it again after reading this. This is everything you love about SK's stories in a short, fabulous package. FREAKIN' LOVED IT!

Phantom Lover - (V'Aidan's story) that was first in "Midnight Pleasures" - This is a Dream-Hunter story, sort of. It's a lovely story about redemption and true love. It's about a woman whom has terrible nightmares and the hero who comes to her rescue only to need saving himself. I read this one when it was originally published but it was wonderful revisiting the story again. Still loved it!

Winter Born - (Dante & Pandora's story: Were-Panthers) that was first in "Stroke of Midnight" - As someone who frequents Comic-Con, this story has always held a tiny piece of my heart although it's set at Dragon-Con, LOL. It's wonderfully descriptive in describing all the wonderful characters present at a Con. It has the fabulous Ash and Simi as well as Were-Panthers reeking havoc. Just a great fun story.

A Dark-Hunter Christmas - (Gallagher's story) originally posted online - Again, this story holds a special place in my heart and has one of the best lines from Simi ever "We have three kinds of family. Those we are born to, those who are born to us, and those we let into our hearts.". Just hits home, ya know? We also get a glimpse at how the DH crew does Xmas with some extra yumminess from Ash.

Until Death Do We Part - (Velkan's Story) originally published in "Love At First Bite" anthology - This is a classic Dark Hunter tale of one of Ash's Dark Hunters whom is a cross between the classic dracula and Romeo from Romeo and Juliet. I know right! Well unfortunately, his Juliet is also super pissed off at him and has been estranged from him for.....oh......five hundred years, LOL. You'll have to read it to find out what happens.

A Hard Day's Night Searcher - (Rafael's story) originally published in "My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding" anthology - Again, another DH story. This one is of Rafael, whom is an ex-pirate and he's had a major crush on a cute little OCD squire who's been sent to haul Rafael's own squire in before the counsel because his squire is as dumb as a door nail. Can Rafael make a deal to save his squire and spend time with his cute little OCD crush? Super cute novella with all the wonderful hi-jinks and fun as well as getting to know more about the squires.

Shadow of the Moon - (Fury's story: Werewolf) originally published in "Dead After Dark" - Fury meets his match and his mate! Ok, I love me some of SK's Were's and I know Savitar told Fury he had already met his mate but when this chick comes on stage, ugggggg! I'm totally not a fan of hers but I am his. Also I still want to just shoot her and be done with it but I did love visiting all the Were's again and Savitar steals the show again!

Fear The Darkness - originally a digital download for her fans. It is a little piece of Nick after his mother died. Just like the title indicates, this is Nick at his darkest moment. He's returned home after his long absence, only to find the aftermath of Katrina. It's very dark and depressing. It's really more like a couple of scenes that really don't go anywhere but just give you a glimpse of how depressed Nick is and how far he's willing to go for revenge.

Where Angels Fear to Tread - (Zeke) originally published in the "Blood Lite" anthology - Just a quick tale or beginning with the caveat: "Be careful what you wish for". The story or scene was so quick that I wasn't even sure what was going on or if it was part of the DH world. Anywho, it's nicely written but again, it's more the beginning of a story with not a lot of explanation. I don't know how else to explain it.

Redemption - A bonus scene from The Guardian - If you loved Seth and Lydia, you're gonna love this short scene. Savitar also makes a scene-stealing appearance as well. Definitely has that awwwww factor!

Unrelated Stories:

Love Bytes - originally published in "Naughty or Nice" - Loved this quick contemporary romance short story about a computer geek and his assistant. Super cute and super romantic.

Santa Wears Spurs -originally published in "All I Want for Christmas" anthology. Written as Kinley MacGregor - More of a historical romance based in the old west about a man torn between the woman he has always loved and his good for nothing brother. Not my favorite out of the bunch but I still liked it.

Multi-themed paranormal short stores make a great collection!

This collection includes stories previously available only on the author's website as well as an all new, never before seen story. But not all of these stories are from the Dark Hunter series. Nor are they all are romances. Most of them are quiet sexy. Some of them are disappointingly brief. But all of them are interesting. To enjoy this book, one should be familiar with the Dark Hunter series. Fans of Ms. Kenyon will love these novellas.

The Definitive Resource

This third volume covering the 1990s is equal in quality to the first two volumes covering the 1970s and 1980s. My review of the first volume also applies to this volume and is reproduced below.

This four volume set of books describes the history of the role-playing industry from its infancy to the present. The amount of information contained in these books is staggering. That one individual was able to bring to fruition such a monumental undertaking is beyond impressive. Even more impressive is the quality of the writing. As a player of RPG's, I imagined that I might have a modest interest in the behind-the-scenes story. Here, the books are organized very well. Each individual chapter is self-contained and told in a very interesting and readable way. The four books don't have to be read cover to cover in order. Rather, readers can peruse individual chapters on specific companies. Where references to other chapters are given, just enough information is provided to allow the reader to understand the context without being over redundant. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this and how much I learned from it. Taken together, the content, the writing, the editorial judgment in finding a balance for including the appropriate amount of detail without being bogged down in minutiae results in a really exceptional book on the subject. One imagines that this four-volume series will become the seminal reference for any study of the RPG industry from 1970-2009. For those readers who think they might have an interest in understanding the history of the RPG industry, this is clearly the definitive work.

A love letter to us in the gaming community. Ms. Appelcline does a superb job of writing about the days of decline in the gaming world, already having covered the glory days of the 70's and 80's. This series of books will be a wonderful resource for those who loved gaming, and future historians who want to know why 3d6 worth of damage can be a bad thing....

White Wolf, Wizards of the Coast, and more! A great read like the rest of the series...

I played a lot of tabletop games during the 80's and 90's and while I don't have as much time as I used to I wish I did. I also happen to be a game scholar so this book series (see note below) was a welcome addition to my bookshelf and I read them all with great interest. I'd recommend looking at all the volumes in the series (70's, 80's, 90's, 00's). My score and review are for the volume above. Overall I'd rate the entire series as 5 stars. Comments specific to this volume are below:

While I was still playing in the 90's, this was also when I started to wind down and, because of how the book series is structured, I didn't really pay attention to lots of the games from companies that were founded in the 90's. White Wolf is the big exception here, played a bunch of those, and the history here is probably worth the price of entry by itself - well, there's also Wizards of the Coast (having witnessed the Magic: The Gathering explosion and TSRs implosion I was curious about the 2nd half of that story). Ok, I also played a lot of Deadlands (Pinnacle Entertainment), so there was still lots here that was near and dear to my heart. In big picture terms, this volume describes an industry that has matured and is on the verge of massive and fundamental changes. It wasn't all good news coming out of the 90s, but the excitement of the early days of the mass internet (the first dot com boom and all that) is part of this story. This one is still a must-read!

Hilarious! A Debauched Gem

Laugh-out-loud funny stories combined with crisp, self-aware writing make this title a must-read. Dripping with testosterone, Paul's stories also exhibit a shameless honesty that is central to their charm. We've all heard night-out stories from that crazy friend, but Paul's writing and knack for storytelling sets this publication apart. Whether ending in success (sex) or failure (rejection), the stories never fail to entertain.

Sex Confessions, Debauchery, and How Men Think.... Where to even start. I was referred this book from a friend, for a good laugh and a little bit of inspiration. Given the content of this book, it's not my usual genre of choice, and I wasn't all too sure how I was going to feel about it when I first bought it. But much to my great surprise, once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It's an all too honest look at dating and pursuing girls from a young male's perspective. The author takes us through his hilarious pursuits, comedic blunders, and sometimes? smile inducing successes as he steps out to conquer the dating and hook-up scene in San Francisco.
Whatever this book may be, it's a great read that kept me unwillfully rooting for the author to find his victory. I laughed out loud a number of times, learned a few tips on confidence, flirting, openers, and approaching women, and often found myself relating very closely with these stories from some deep recess of my own journey.
Its written very well, has great flow, and most importantly is fun!

Hilarious, simply hilarious. Paul's writing gives a vivid look into a young twenty-something's sexploits in the city. It reminds me of my younger days, right out of college.

I gave this book only 4 stars because it left me wanting more, but honestly at this price you can't complain. It was a perfect read for my weekly flight between LA and SF, but when I landed all I wanted to do was keep reading Paul's stories. I truly hope this is just the beginning for a witty and insightful writer like Paul.

Definitely a Must-Buy.

This was a good story from Drew Magary. I wish it was a full fledged novel. Of course for 99 cents it definitely fit the price.

Looking forward to the next one.

Philip K. Dick-esque

A solid short story with a sci-fi tone.

A rover (small ship) crash lands in an old man's back yard. What follows is a well-written, page turning story. It also has its touching moments as you get to know an old man and his inner thoughts.

The story has traits of a modern day Philip K. Dick story -- as a matter of fact, if you were to read it without knowing the author and date, the story could very well have been written in Dick's era.

I really enjoyed this kindle single. Drew Magary is a very talented author and it shows through in his descriptive and light hearted text. Definitely worth a read!
