This beatufil book is written with a love and wit not seen in most modern literature. The words flow by seamlessly, bringing beauty and marvel to each page. Rather than give a short interpretation of the book, I will only recomend you read it yourself, and find the greatness this has to offer. Read it!

However, I have read several interesting pieces, and this one was no exception.

It was obvious the author poured her soul into these selections, as they were filled with emotion. She provided a wide-range of topics as well--everything from divorce to abuse. Some were a bit confusing to me, but that could be left up to the perception of each reader, and others may have a different experience. I commend her for tackling such sensitive subjects, and was impressed to learn that each of these pieces were composed one day at a time. That takes guts and dedication.

There were a few distracting grammar issues, however, they were not frequent enough to deter me from finishing the stories. And, I suppose that may be part of the 'time-sensitive' aspect of writing flash fiction.

In conclusion, I found these writings to be entertaining and heartfelt and recommend this book to anyone who enjoys emotional flash fiction.

A PROMISING COLLECTION

Some may say publishing short stories is easier than compiling an intricate novel, but I dare them then to be brave enough to set before themselves the challenge this beginner author has.
26 is a collection in which each story is inspired by a certain colour or shade, which is a beautiful concept in itself. However, the author's mission is also to tell the stories from different perspectives and tackle some serious social and political topics, as well as those dealing with the most private and intimate details of a person's life. Some stories are told in the first person and have a highly lyrical tone, and these are the ones in which the author's style is most relaxed and strongest. Breaking up a relationship, saying goodbye to a child you lost, sibling relationships - these are all told with a particularly gentle voice, highly emotional and romantic. Some stories, however, deal with highly provoking topics such as prostitution, child molesting, betrayal, political riots, sexual orientation and animal abuse. This is where the author shows true potential and makes us wonder how her style and passion will develop after this brave first publishing. Although the impression the stories leave on the reader may vary in strength, probably also dependant on the reader's own taste and experience, it is fascinating to read how the author creates this patchwork of topics and moods, all connected with her own voice. Let me share some of my favourites. Black, No More! is the one in which a girl changes her black clothes into colourful as she finally gains confidence to stand up for herself, and it is a story where the author talks about serious social issues, not aggressively but from an intimate point of view. Grey Powder is a dialogue about drug abuse, and despite it not being a lyrical peace, it shows tons of promises about what we can expect from this author in the future. The Jade Mandarin Ducks is one of the stories which has potential as a novel, about a married couple facing problems of betrayal and forgiving each other and themselves. Scarlet Autumn gives a short image of an orphan's melancholy and does for the story what a haiku does for a poem. My absolute favourite if Bleeding Ivory, a heart-breaking love story about.... no, please read it for yourselves. It's worth it! I did expect a bit more colour, but perhaps it's just that the collection would be a fantastic gift if illustrated or accompanied by photos. All things considered, this author has created a unique and challenging collection of stories, bravely tackling striking areas of our world, and it will be a pleasure to watch her fine-tune her style and develop as an author.

Sentiments Galore!

This is a short story collection that not only has varied emotion in it, it also evokes so many emotions from the reader. I finished the book in one sitting and enjoyed each of the 26 tales varied as they were.

Aditi has written them with a fine balance between colors and emotions and ensuring that each story is a peek into the emotions and how they match the colors. The stories are written in a crisp style with and no unnecessary word. I must praise the author for conveying so much in so few words. The book left me with wishing to read more of her work. An excellent play of emotions, human sentiments and the ugly side of a human being. How easy it is for a person to forget a loved one? How love means the ultimate sacrifice for some and means never abandoning a person for others.

I was especially moved by these stories, I Named Him Dandelion, Grey Powder, The Bleeding Ivory gave me Goosebumps! The Khakee Distress, Nude, The Periwinkle Ribbon, Loving Vanilla, The Xanthic Nightmares all arouse strong emotions.

For me it is a well written book if it manages to engross me and make me lose my cool; this book did both. Aditi, writes like an experienced traveler rather than a young girl; very admirable.

A must read for when you want to really feel deeply about life. Pick it for your weekend.

Artistic, creative, inspiring...

Aditi Kaushiva's 26 is a unique concept – 26 beautifully crafted short stories, each one inspired by a different colour. I confess I have never read a collection of short stories before and began this book curious to see how the writer could persuade me to invest in characters and events that had so little space to exist. I was sold by the second story!
For me, these tales lay somewhere in between poetry and prose; with that lyrical quality that makes you dwell on sections and want to speak them out loud. Some tales I could relate to directly from my own experience, the others were simply thought provokers that sent me off into my imagination. As a teacher, I think this would be great for secondary schools; both in terms of the literary skill and the opportunity to introduce young people to some of the big life issues. Each story is a lesson in how to express volumes with very few words and would be brilliant as a series of drama skits.
My personal favourite was Dandelion – having been rescued by my ‘rescue’ cat many times over! I suspect everyone who reads this will have a different personal favourite. This is a text I will definitely re-read and go back to time and time again.

Great stories

OK, I am the mother of a teacher so I might be biased regarding this book. I know a little something of what educators deal with on a day-to-day basis. The stories are mostly humorous but there are some that will touch anyone's heart whether they or a loved one are part of the educational system.

There are some great teachers out that who know honesty, humor and compassion go a long way in the classroom. Mr. Bae appears to be one of those.

I read this short story elsewhere and loved it. Well written and edited and perfect if you are looking for something short. All I can say without giving too much away is this story proves no one is safe in this world.

Pepper was with the Cheney team in the White House and underground bunker on 9/11, and worked privately for Mr. Cheney after he left office. He tells what he overheard on 9/11 and what he learned afterwards about the VP’s meetings with David Addington, Donald Rumsfeld, John Yoo, Michael Hayden, Paul Wolfowitz, Erik Prince, Monica Crowley, Michelle Obama, Ray Kurzweil and other very important people. Pepper has nothing but praise for his hero, but readers not so kindly disposed toward the great statesman will find these accounts disturbing, scandalous and totally outrageous, though perhaps not as bad as expected.

The memoir is listed as fiction, a political satire, even a novel, but editor Bruno Alemanni makes it clear in his preface that he could not list it otherwise for fear of retaliation from very prominent people in America’s power elite. Each story might have moments that seem fictional, but the details, dates, places, color of eyes, suits, ties, chairs and such are solidly factual, and can be checked. The result is an account that seems to draw a fine line between truth and fiction, credibility and farce, as does the career of Mr. Cheney itself. Here, however, his private thoughts and words — invented or recorded for history? — are at last revealed.

Dark alarming satire

Written by a secret admirer of the most notorious American VP, the man who, when talking to anyone, makes it feel that he "deserves more oxygen" than his interlocutor, this combination of mock memoir, spy thriller, and investigative report is in the tradition of dystopian satire, the kind that was penned by the namesake of one of the characters in the book, Zamyatine's _We._ The prospects of humanity here are even more frightening than in the original. The future of mankind doesn't belong to mankind itself any longer; it's all in the hands of the digitized entities, such as the book's protagonist, unstoppable and self-reproducible ad infinitum.

A road map of evil

A stunning purview of a man so evil words cannot describe it, but Pepper manages to give us so many concrete examples that the enormous reach of the creature is glaringly shown. Sad to say that so few people will take the opportunity to avail themselves of the information. Entertainment and thrills are what gain attention in our time. I am sorry that Pepper will be shouting in a vacuum. But there is still hope.

It's a men's book

So it looks like I'm the first woman to review this book on amazon, which doesn't really surprise me.

This is definitely a man's book, and I'm sure many women will get offended. If you can get over being a woman, and just read the book as Frank's view of the world, women can enjoy this book too.

I found it interesting, disturbing, thought provoking, cringe-worthy, funny and so macho that I had to shake my head a few times.
It is a very well written book, but the content isn't for everyone. However, I am not bothered by swearing, graphic sex and violence so found the book more entertaining than offensive.

One thing you have to give Frank, whether you like the book or not, he grabs life by the balls and squeezes every bit out of it. He decides what he wants and goes for it, with full abandon. He doesn't have a shy or self-doubting bone in his body. His ego is gigantic, but he gets what he wants.

Who doesn't envy that? Set goal, attain them, every single one, because you have no doubt at all that you will.

One of the best books that I've read in a while. Already going back to read it a second time.

This book is entertaining and thought provoking. For people looking for surface-level entertainment, ALPHA provides it. For people looking for an introspective look at America and the attitude that many in this country advance as what makes one successful, ALPHA provides the critical context in which to analyze someone who has embraced it with reckless abandon.

ALPHA should be on your reading list. It's awesome.

deliciously depraved

Frank Parker is narcissistic and mysoginistic, has an inner turmoil almost as bad as Henry Chinaski, and has a cunning that Patrick Bateman would admire. I wonder if I'd be worthy of a bingo square in his game? 10/10 would read again, and recommend to my friends. Obviously there is adult situations, but if you had that level of power in life, you'd do the same.

This book was intriguing and a great read. The description with in each short story truly allowed me to visualize what was transpiring. I would recommend this text to someone who is looking to gain perspective, and knowledge of African culture, it is also suitable for a college course.
